Prediction of Soil Salinity/Sodicity and Salt-Affected Soil Classes from Soluble Salt Ions Using Machine Learning Algorithms

چکیده

Salt-affected soils are related to salinity (high content of soluble salts) and/or sodicity (excess sodium), which major leading causes agricultural land degradation. This study aimed evaluate the performances three machine learning (ML) algorithms in predicting soil exchangeable sodium percentage (ESP), electrical conductivity (ECe), and salt-affected classes, from salt ions. The assessed ML models were Partial Least-Squares (PLS), Support Vector Machines (SVM), Random Forests (RF). Soil samples collected High Valley Cochabamba (Bolivia). explanatory variables ions (Na+, K+, Ca2+, Mg2+, HCO3−, Cl−, CO32−, SO42−). be explained comprised ECe ESP, a categorical variable classified through US Salinity Lab criteria. According model validation, SVM RF regressions performed best for estimating ECe, as well ESP. algorithm was superior categories. Soluble Na+ most relevant all predictions, followed by HCO3−. can used predict Additional features might improve models’ performance. obtained may contribute monitoring management area.

Prediction of Soil Moisture Content and Soil Salt Concentration from Hyperspectral Laboratory and Field Data

This research examines the simultaneous retrieval of surface soil moisture and salt concentrations using hyperspectral reflectance data in an arid environment. We conducted laboratory and outdoor field experiments in which we examined three key soil variables: soil moisture, salt and texture (silty loam, clay and silty clay). The soil moisture content models for multiple textures (M_SMC models)...

Effectiveness of compost use in salt-affected soil.

Soil degradation and salinization are two of the utmost threat affecting agricultural areas, derived from the increasing use of low quality water and inappropriate cultural practices. The problem of low productivity of saline soils may be ascribed not only to their salt toxicity or damage caused by excess amounts of soluble salts but also arising from the lack of organic matter and available mi...

The Effect of Compost and Sewage Sludge on Soil Biologic Activities in Salt Affected Soil

Saline soil was amended with 13.3 and 26.6 g kg of Municipal Solid Waste (MSW) compost or sewage sludge, and arylsulphatase (ARY), phosphatase (PHO), dehydrogenase (DEH), β-glucosidase (β-GLU), urease (URE) and catalase (CAT) activities as well as physical-chemical properties were determined after 70 day of incubation under laboratory conditions. MSW compost and sewage sludge significantly impr...

The Effect of reclamation of salt affected lands to Cropland on soil quality indicators

In this study the effects of land use change from salt affected land to cropland on soil quality indicators were studied in Chahafzal region, Yazd province, central Iran. Composite soil samples from 0-30 and 30-60 cm depths of saline and cultivated land were taken. Soil particle size distribution, calcium carbonate, Available water capacity (AWC), Electrical conductivity (ECe), Soil reaction (p...

Response of Wheat to Soil Amendments with Poor Quality Irrigation Water in Salt Affected Soil

The experiment was conducted on farmer’s field at District Lakki Marwat (NWFP) during Rabi (spring) 2007-08, in order to study the response of wheat to different soil treatments irrigated with poor quality irrigation water. The treatments including control, tillage, gypsum and sulphuric acid were applied before sowing of the wheat crop. The treatments were arranged in a randomized complete bloc...
